Enel X is to use its Circular Economy Report tool to develop a roadmap to enhance energy efficiency and reduce emissions in Italy’s fashion industry.
With the drive to decarbonise end uses to meet climate targets the energy sector is well placed to provide its expertise and partner with other sectors on energy savings and emissions reductions.
Enel X demonstrates such a partnership with the implementation of its Circular Economy model for the Sustainable Fashion Innovation Society (SFIS), an Italian fashion industry association. The aim is to build sustainability and other circular economy measures into the SFIS Phygital Sustainability EXPO, a new event focussed on an ecological transition of fashion and design.
“In order to outline a real path of sustainability able to radically transform processes and corporate culture, it is necessary to start from the current accurate analysis,” says Nicola Tagliafierro, Head of Sustainability at Enel X.

“We strongly believe that this is the way to go and that is why we have entered into a partnership with SFIS, a further step that will allow us to become the main partner for companies operating in the fashion industry, supporting them in a path of growth towards business models that are increasingly competitive, circular and sustainable.”
Enel X’s Circular Economy Report tool draws on the principles of renewable energy inputs and products as a service with life extension and recycling to analyse aspects across the value chain from product and process design, procurement policies, mobility and logistics to waste management and energy sources, with a focus on efficiency and energy management.
Once any gaps are identified, a roadmap is defined to improve the level of sustainability and circularity of the company through a targeted selection of opportunities that generate economic savings as well as a reduction in environmental impact and carbon emissions.
Valeria Mangani, President of the SFIS, adds: “The process of eco-sustainable transition of the production chain can no longer be postponed. SMEs and micro SMEs have understood the importance of green disruption in order to remain globally competitive as best players of ‘made in Italy’.”
Enel X has become a leader in circular economy development and its Circular Economy Report has been recognised with the Business Intelligence Group’s Sustainability Service of the Year award for 2020.
